Intro -

Hello! My name is Aaron. I have been designing for the web for over ten years now. I have earned a Bachelor’s degree in Digital Media Design. I served five years honorably in the military. I have lived all over the United States. I have recently decided to change my career path from web design to freelance writing.

Web Design -

My web design career has been rewarding and adventurous. Web design is something I knew I would do from a very young age, way back in middle school around the 2002–2003 timeframe. As soon as I found out what websites were, I immediately had to find out how they worked and create them myself. I loved the visual aspects of web design and the mysterious coding and back end production, making the website functional.

I was always more active with websites’ visual design than the code, but I ever made sure I knew at least HTML and CSS. Photoshop and notepad were my best friends at the start of my career.

Military -

In 2011 I took a break from web design and college and joined the military. I signed a 5-year contract with the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. When they told me I qualified to be a healthcare professional, I thought, “holy shit, you really trust me to take care of people?” My whole life, I had been this eclectic and creative artist. Now I was about to become a mix of a nurse and combat medic essentially. Ultimately I knew healthcare and medicine is always a great field to get into no matter what.

After my honorable discharge from the military in 2016, I went back to school to finish my Digital Media Design Bachelor’s degree. At this same time, I continued working as a freelance web designer. Eventually, I moved out to Los Angeles, California, where I joined a long-time friend and business partner. The move enabled us to make more significant strides in the web design business and business in general.

Career Change -

Ironically, not long after I finished my Bachelor’s degree in Digital Media Design, I felt done and over with web design. I came to a point where I could no longer bring myself to create websites. I burnt out, once and for all. I felt ready for a new career, a new challenge, a new life.

After quitting my job as a web designer, I really didn’t have an excellent plan for what I would do next in life. I saved up a little bit of money to hold me over while I figured things out. I knew I wanted to move around and use my time as I wanted while working independently as a contractor or for myself.

I did a ton of research on freelance and self-employment opportunities and ideas and kept coming back to freelance writing. I have always loved to write. Why not write for a living? Freelance writing has a low overhead. I can write from anywhere. Content creation is needed everywhere. Content is king. After I convinced myself writing is the way to go, I began researching freelance writing more precisely and how to go about it.

Today -

Here I sit today, beginning my new adventure to become a freelance writer. I am reading as much as I can. I am learning a great deal about writing and the business of writing. I have developed a schedule to write consistently to build and grow more quickly as a writer. I know this won’t be easy at first, but I understand that it’s all possible with hard work and dedication.

Thank you in advance for any and all support. It does and will mean a lot as I go through this journey of becoming a freelance writer. If you have any tips, advice, or questions, please feel free to reach out to me. I’m available for hire!
